Free QR Code Generator

Create a static QR code for a website link or text. Check the exact encoded content, customize the colors, and download a PNG, JPG, or scalable SVG for digital use or printing.

1. What would you like to encode?
Paste a complete URL or type example.com/menu. HTTPS is added only when the scheme is missing; the exact encoded address appears in the preview.
Presets are starting points, not a guarantee that a code will scan at every printed size.

Static QR codes: This tool encodes a link or text directly. It does not offer an editable QR destination, hosted redirect, automatic scan count, or a built-in QR decoder. A UTM-tagged URL can help identify visits in your website analytics, but it does not count all scans. The QR image is generated locally by the JavaScript library in your browser; do not encode passwords or sensitive personal information in QR codes.

How to create a QR code for a link or text

  1. Choose website link or plain text. For links, enter the actual page you want visitors to open. For a note or short message, switch to plain text.
  2. Choose a preset. Start with Digital sharing, Business card, Flyer or poster, or Product packaging; customize the size and error correction when needed.
  3. Review the encoded content. The preview panel shows the exact URL or text. Confirm the full domain, path, and any campaign parameters.
  4. Choose a file format. PNG is a practical default, SVG scales without pixelation, and JPG uses a solid background.
  5. Download and scan-test. Check the actual QR image with a phone, then test again at the final printed dimensions and on the final material.

The generator creates static QR codes for links and text. Typing contact details as plain text does not automatically create a structured vCard, and typing a Wi-Fi password does not create a Wi-Fi connection code.

QR code settings for business cards, flyers, and packaging

Business cards

Start with the Business card preset. Use a short, final landing-page URL, keep the code away from trimmed edges, and scan-test a physical proof.

Flyers and posters

Start with the Flyer or poster preset and download SVG when your design software supports it. Test at the distance people will actually scan from.

Product packaging

Use a stable instructions or product URL. Check contrast against the packaging material, and test the finished print before a production run.

What do error-correction levels mean?

QR error correction helps recover data when portions of a symbol are damaged. The approximate recovery levels are L: 7%, M: 15%, Q: 25%, and H: 30% of codewords, but they are not promises that a particular damaged or obscured design will scan. Higher levels can increase pattern density. Medium is a sensible default for clean codes; select another level for a specific, tested use case.

How to prepare a print-ready QR code

Keep the symbol square, preserve the clear margin around it, and make sure the dark modules stand out from the background. This generator uses a four-module quiet zone in both previews and downloads. Do not crop this margin in a design editor.

Pixel dimensions alone cannot determine an appropriate printed size: encoded data length, QR pattern density, the substrate, expected scanning distance, and printer quality all matter. A larger or more complex QR code should be checked at its real final size. Transparent backgrounds can work, but the finished design must still provide a sufficiently light, uniform surface behind the entire code and its quiet zone.

FormatWhen to choose itWhat to check
PNGWebsites, documents, digital flyers, and common print projects.Use adequate resolution; preserve sharp square edges.
SVGVector-compatible editors, packaging, signs, and scalable artwork.Keep the full artwork and quiet zone intact when placing it.
JPGWorkflows that specifically require JPEG images.JPEG compression may soften edges; it cannot retain transparency.

Pre-print QR code checklist

Why is my QR code not scanning?

Start by scanning the downloaded file on another screen. If that works but the printed version fails, check print size, surface reflections, blur, color contrast, stretching, and whether the required clear margin has been cropped. If the scanner reads a URL but the page does not open, review the encoded address and the destination website separately.

  • Wrong destination: Read the exact encoded content in the tool before downloading. Static QR codes cannot be edited after printing.
  • Low contrast: Switch to black modules on a white background and test again. A contrast warning is only a guide, not a scan certification.
  • Dense or tiny pattern: Shorten a long URL where practical, use an appropriate output size, or enlarge the physical code.
  • Missing border: Do not crop away the four-module quiet zone or overlap it with decorative elements.
  • Transparent background: Check the final material behind the code; the checkerboard in the preview is not included in the download.

Static vs. dynamic QR codes: what happens after download?

This tool creates a static QR code: the URL or text is stored directly in the code. The image itself does not have a tool-imposed expiration date, but a deleted webpage, expired domain, changed permissions, or disabled destination can make the link stop working. You cannot change the URL embedded in an already printed static QR image.

Dynamic QR systems usually route scans through a managed redirect that may allow destination edits or scan reporting. This tool does not provide that redirect service. If you need to measure visitors from a printed campaign, build a URL with the Designs24hr UTM Builder first, then encode the tagged link here. Website analytics may identify resulting visits; they cannot count every scan that did not become a tracked visit.

Frequently asked questions

Is the QR code generator free?

Yes. You can create static QR codes for links or text and download PNG, JPG, or SVG files without signing up.

Do the QR codes expire?

The generated static QR images have no tool-imposed expiration date. An encoded website link may still stop working if the destination changes, closes, or becomes unavailable.

Can I change the link after printing?

No. A static QR code stores its destination directly. Generate and print a new code to change that encoded URL.

Can I track how many people scan the QR code?

Not with this generator alone. A tagged campaign URL may help attribute resulting website visits in your own analytics, but visit counts are not equivalent to total scans.

Can I use QR codes commercially?

You can use the generated QR images on your own print and digital projects. Confirm that the linked material and any other images or branding you combine with the code are authorized for your intended use.

Is the data sent to a QR generation server?

No QR-generation request containing your input is made by this page's generator. It loads a JavaScript QR library, then renders the code in your browser. Avoid encoding passwords, private account information, or other secrets: anyone who scans a shared QR code can read its contents.

Can I add a logo or make a Wi-Fi or vCard QR code?

This version does not insert logos, create structured contact cards, or format Wi-Fi connection data. It directly encodes a website URL or plain text.
