How to use this free password generator
- Choose a mode: Random password for most accounts, a multiword passphrase when you need to type or remember it, or numeric PIN for a system that specifically requires digits.
- Choose your requirements: For random passwords, adjust length, select allowed character groups, and exclude characters a website will not accept.

Which type of password should you choose?
Random password
Choose this for most account logins, especially when you can store the result in a password manager. Start with the 20-character default if the service accepts it.
Memorable passphrase
Use randomly selected words when you must remember or manually type a secret. This mode uses a small built-in wordlist, so select 10 or 12 words for important uses.
Numeric PIN
Use this only for systems that request a user-chosen numeric code. A short PIN is not a substitute for a long account password; choose more digits if supported.
Make a password that meets a website’s rules
Some services restrict symbols, password length, or similar-looking characters. Rather than repeatedly guessing what will work, select the allowed character groups and add any forbidden characters to the exclusion box. This generator includes at least one character from each selected group when generating a random password. If your choices leave no usable characters, it displays an error instead of inventing a result.
Example: If a website requires a 16-character password with uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers but does not accept symbols, choose the 16-character preset, turn off Symbols, and generate a fresh result. If a service permits only a small password length, follow its requirements, but avoid using that same password anywhere else.
What makes a password strong?
Length, unpredictability and uniqueness matter more than clever substitutions of familiar words. A longer password made with a secure random-number generator avoids predictable patterns such as names, birthdays, keyboard sequences, and words with a few letters replaced by symbols. Do not assume that adding more symbols makes a short password equivalent to a much longer one.
The NIST Digital Identity Guidelines explain why password length and screening against commonly used or compromised passwords matter. Not every website follows the same rules, so choose a long unique credential that your service accepts, and turn on multifactor authentication when available.
How this tool generates passwords and PINs
Random passwords and numeric PINs are produced in your browser using Web Crypto random values. The generator uses an unbiased selection method for character and word choices and does not use personal seed words or Math.random(). For a random password, it first chooses a character from every selected group, fills the remaining positions from the allowed characters, and shuffles the result.
The generator itself does not submit credentials to a server or store them in local storage. That is different from a guarantee about the entire website, browser, extensions, clipboard, or third-party scripts. Do not enter an existing password into an online generator. If you copy a result, paste it into the intended password field or password manager promptly.

How many characters should my password have?
Use the longest random password that your website permits. The default here is 20 characters; shorter options are available for sites with strict rules. A unique password and multifactor authentication are important as well.
Can I generate a password without special characters?
Yes. Choose the “20 characters · no symbols” preset or uncheck Symbols in the random-password settings. The generator will use the remaining selected and permitted characters.
Can I exclude O, 0, I, l, and 1?
Yes. Select “Exclude similar-looking characters,” or specify additional exclusions yourself. The generator applies exclusions to every selected character group.
Are randomly generated passphrases secure?
A passphrase can be strong when its words are independently and randomly chosen from a sufficiently large pool. This tool uses a built-in wordlist; choose 10 or 12 words if you use this mode for an important account. Avoid choosing familiar phrases or personal words yourself.
Can I recover a password generated earlier?
No. The tool does not provide password storage or recovery. Save the result in your password manager before generating another one or leaving the page.
Does a PIN replace an account password?
No. A PIN is appropriate only where the device or service specifically supports a user-chosen numeric code, typically with additional protections such as retry limits. Prefer longer PINs when allowed.
