Text Case Options

Different capitalization styles solve different formatting problems. The converter keeps everyday writing cases easy to reach while placing less common transformations in the additional case menu.

UPPERCASE

Changes every letter to capitals. Useful for short labels, headings, spreadsheet headers and emphasis.

lowercase

Changes letters to lowercase. Useful for cleanup, tags, filenames, lists and text with inconsistent capitalization.

Sentence case

Lowercases the text and capitalizes the beginning of sentences and lines for more natural everyday writing.

Title Case

Capitalizes important words while keeping common minor words lowercase when they appear inside a title.

Capitalize Each Word

tOGGLE cASE

snake_case

Lowercases words and joins them with underscores, such as text_case_converter.

kebab-case

Lowercases words and joins them with hyphens, such as text-case-converter.

CONSTANT_CASE

Uses uppercase words separated by underscores, such as TEXT_CASE_CONVERTER.

Important: Case conversion changes capitalization and separators only. Review proper names, acronyms, trademarks and specialized titles before publishing.

Text Case Examples

The same phrase can be formatted several ways depending on where you plan to use it.

Sentence case Free text case converter Paragraphs, descriptions, notes and everyday writing
Title Case Free Text Case Converter General titles, headings and page names

Uppercase vs Lowercase vs Sentence Case vs Title Case

The best text case depends on what you are formatting. UPPERCASE makes short text visually prominent, while lowercase is useful for cleaning or normalizing inconsistent text. Sentence case usually works better for normal paragraphs and descriptions.

Title Case is intended for headings and titles. This converter treats common short words such as “and,” “of,” “the,” “in” and “to” as minor words when they appear inside a title. If you literally want every word to begin with a capital letter, choose Capitalize Each Word instead.

Style-guide note: Different editorial guides use different title capitalization rules. This tool provides a practical general-purpose Title Case and does not claim exact AP, APA, Chicago or MLA compliance.

When to Use Each Text Case

  • Documents and emails: Sentence case is usually easiest to read for normal prose.
  • Headings and titles: Use Title Case or Sentence case depending on your publishing style.
  • Spreadsheets: Standardize labels and pasted text before sorting or publishing data.
  • Filenames: Lowercase, snake_case or kebab-case can make names more consistent.
  • Programming and technical work: camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case and CONSTANT_CASE are common naming patterns.
  • Copied text: Convert inconsistent capitalization into a clean starting format before editing.
  • Captions and content drafts: Quickly standardize text before reviewing the final wording.

Why Use This Free Case Converter?

Convert Without Retyping

Changing capitalization manually is slow when you are working with a long paragraph, spreadsheet row, title list or copied document. One conversion can update the entire text at once.

Keep Input and Output Separate

Your original text stays in the input box while the converted version appears separately. This makes it easier to compare the two versions before replacing anything.

Reuse Converted Text

Use the converted result as a new input when you need multiple transformations. For example, you can clean text first and then turn the result into snake_case or kebab-case.

See Word, Character and Line Counts

The built-in counters make it easier to verify that your content is still complete after conversion and provide a quick view of the size of both the original and converted text.

Browser-Based Processing

The conversion functions in this tool run with JavaScript in your browser. The text you enter is not required to be sent to Designs24hr for the case conversion to work.

Text Case Converter FAQs

What is a text case converter?

A text case converter changes the capitalization or formatting pattern of text without requiring you to retype it. You can convert text to uppercase, lowercase, sentence case, title case and several other formats.

How do I convert uppercase text to lowercase?

What is snake_case?

snake_case normally uses lowercase words joined by underscores. For example, “text case converter” becomes text_case_converter.

What is kebab-case?

kebab-case joins lowercase words with hyphens. For example, “text case converter” becomes text-case-converter.
